In January 2009, a German Shepherd named "Elvis" became the Palatine Police Department’s second patrol canine after K-9 Crow was recently retired. Elvis was born June 3, 2007 in Appling, Georgia and was partnered with Officer Jamie Ashe after both completed an eight week long Basic K-9 Training Program in Amelia County, Virginia. Elvis and Officer Ashe are certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) in narcotics detection, building/area searches, criminal apprehension, handler protection and tracking of suspects and lost persons. K-9 Elvis retired along with Officer Ashe in February of 2017. Elvis enjoyed his retirement taking walks, relaxing outside, and spending time with his family. Sadly, Elvis passed away in January of 2020.
