Clerk - Marg Duer

As Clerk, Marg focuses on writing clear, concise, and accurate minutes of Village business.  She is active in the Municipal Clerks Association of 46 N&NW Cook County suburbs.  She completed the University of Illinois Municipal Clerks’ Institute and Academy and has served as President, Vice-President, and Scholarship Chairman for the Clerks Association.

After graduating from Northwestern University, she moved to Palatine in 1972, to teach English and art at Fremd High School.   Marg met her husband, Bob, in Palatine, and they raised their three children here.  Her community involvement includes the Northwest Community Healthcare, League of Women Voters, and St. Philip’s Episcopal Church where she served as Senior Warden and Clerk of Vestry.  

Marg volunteered to open a Farmers’ Market in Palatine in 1992, with 6 vendors. Under her management, it has become a year-round Market with over 30 vendors, local musicians, and civic organizations.

In 1990, Marg hosted community meetings to create the Sister Cities Association of Palatine, and in 1995, established Fontenay-le-Comte, France as Palatine’s Sister City.

Marg was the first Palatine recipient of the Studs Terkel Humanities Award for promoting the arts in Palatine; and, in 2018, she was named Community Volunteer of the Year by the Palatine Chamber of Commerce.  Marg is proud to contribute to the vibrant Palatine community.
