Refuse & Recycling

COVID-19 Related Information Regarding Groot Refuse & Recycling Collections:

SPRING CLEAN UP POSTPONED: In order to protect the health and well being of refuse and recycling workers, spring cleanup, originally scheduled for May 1 - May 6, 2020 has been postponed until further notice.

BULK ITEMS: During the weeks of May 11, May 18 & May 25, residents may dispose of ONE BULK ITEM for curbside pick-up. This includes construction debris, mattresses, cardboard boxes and furniture. Residents are limited to only one item each week.

REFUSE: All refuse must be placed in your Groot refuse cart, or placed in tied bags, before setting them at the curb for collection (each bag not to exceed 50 lbs.).

WHITE GOODS/APPLIANCES & ELECTRONICS: The collection of white goods/appliances and electronics has been suspended.

RECYCLING: In an effort to protect their employees and to continue to provide curbside recycling, Groot is requesting those households that have the virus, to bag their recycling and throw it in with their garbage. Groot hopes this will help prevent their employees, who physically sort the materials, from getting the virus. This request does NOT apply to those households that are COVID-19 free.

TIPS TO MANAGE GARBAGE & RECYCLING:  If a resident is moving and needs assistance with having large items picked up, call a junk hauling service - resources at https://swancc.org/green-pages-reuse-and-recycling-directory/junk-haulers.

As temperatures rise, residents are cleaning out closets, basements, and garages to prepare for spring and summer. Be mindful as you sort through the items no longer wanted or needed because many of the organizations that accept donations, like Goodwill or your local thrift store, may be closed at this time.
