State of the Village Rescheduled
to 2/27

Due to the anticipated severe weather, the State of the Village presentation has been rescheduled from Wednesday, January 30 to Wednesday, February 27.  All Palatine residents are invited to join the Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce for an opportunity to engage with leadership from the Village of Palatine, including Mayor Jim Schwantz. The meeting will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in the Council Chamber of Village Hall, 200 E. Wood Street. Learn about what is on the horizon for the Village in 2019, as well as an update on the status of our business community. For more information visit the Palatine Chamber of Commerce.

Winter Brush Collection Update

Due to the recent snowfalls, the Public Works Department will delay its annual winter curbside brush collection.  Crews will begin picking up brush on Monday, March 4, 2019. Please have all loose brush set out at the curb by 7:00 a.m.

Palatine Police

Citizen Police Academy

The Palatine Police Department is now accepting applications for the spring session of the Citizen Police Academy that will run from March 6th through May 8th on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Citizen Police Academy is a unique opportunity for participants to gain insight into the world of law enforcement as well as foster positive relationships with the officers who serve in their community.

Numerous members of the department will be instructing during the ten week academy with classroom lectures and hands on exercises. The topics to be covered will include:

  • Use of Force
  • Shoot Don’t Shoot Scenarios
  • Crime Prevention
  • Vehicle Stops
  • Neighborhood Based Policing
  • SWAT Operations
  • Gangs
  • K-9 Demonstration
  • Animal Control
  • Crime Scene Investigation

The goal of the Citizen Police Academy is to educate citizens regarding the law enforcement profession and to strive to work cooperatively with the residents of Palatine to make our community a safe place to live and work.

Applicants must be at least 25 years of age and reside in Palatine. Class size is limited and spots fill quickly. Please fill out the application which is located on the police department website and mail it to the address below or drop it off at the Palatine Police Department.

School’s Out Fun Days on February 18 & 19

School’s Out Fun days at Falcon Park Recreation Center provide activities and games on days off school following the Community Consolidated School District 15 calendar. Hosted by the Palatine Park District, these events include both organized games and unstructured play in the gym and on the turf along with crafts, games, and more. Participants should wear gym shoes and bring a water bottle and a lunch.

Program hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with optional extended hours available from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Program registration is required in order to register for the extended hours. The fee is $40 for residents and $60 for non-residents for each daily program. The fees for each session of optional before or after care is $12 for residents and $15 for non-residents. The next Fun Days are February 18 and 19. Registration is available online at palatineparks.org or in person at Community Center, Birchwood Recreation Center, and Falcon Park Recreation Center.
