Road Closure Alert

Union Pacific Railroad will be performing track repairs on the railroad crossing at Smith Street from Thursday, October 11, 2018, to Friday, October 12, 2018.  Smith Street at the railroad crossing will be closed to all vehicular traffic starting at 9:00 a.m.  on October 11.  A detour route will be posted to direct traffic to use Palatine Road, Quentin Road, and Colfax Street.

Palatine Fire Department Open House

The Palatine Fire Department will be hosting its annual Open House on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Fire Station 84, located at 220 W. Illinois Avenue, Palatine. The event will run between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. This event will be fun for the whole family. Planned activities include a fire and rescue vehicle showcase, displays of specialty team equipment, children’s activities and station tours. 

Participating organizations will include the Palatine Police Department, Palatine Emergency Management Agency, Palatine Fire Prevention Division, Palatine Historical Society, Northwest Central Dispatch, Harper College, ComEd, Illinois Fire Safety Alliance, Starbucks Coffee and The Home Depot.

The events of the day will include a Vehicle Extrication Demonstration, Firefighter and Specialty Team personal protective equipment displays, “Mr. Wizard’s” fire safety demonstration, and a live fire/sprinkler room demonstration. The tentative schedule of events is:
  • Station Tours 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Vehicle/Equipment Demonstrations 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Public Education Trailer Display 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Fire Power DVD/Presentation 10:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 1:15 p.m.
  • Vehicle Extrication Demonstration 10:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.
  • Mr. Wizard Fire Behavior Demonstration 11:30 a.m.
  • Live Fire/Sprinkler Demonstration 1:00 p.m.

Annual Curbside Leaf Collection Program

Leaf Collection

The Public Works Department will begin its annual Curbside Leaf Collection Program on Monday, October 15, 2018. Each single-family residence has two scheduled pickups. A final pickup for all zones will begin on Monday, November 12, 2018. Please click here to look up your scheduled collection days. All raked leaves must be placed into the street and ready for pickup no later than 7:00 a.m. on scheduled days, but no earlier than 4:00 a.m. on the day prior to collection.

Palatine Farmers' Market is Year Around!

Palatine Farmers' Market

Enjoy more than 30 vendors showcasing their wares, products, and services at the Summer Farmers' Market in the Metra Station parking lot every Saturday through October 27.

The Palatine Farmers' Market is a premier market in the Northwest Suburbs for its fresh picked produce and fresh baked breads, cookies and pies offered every Saturday. Locally harvested fruits, vegetables, micro greens, garlic, fresh eggs and meats, amish butter, gourmet cheeses, spices, condiments, coffee, pickles, pet treats, flowers, vegan burgers, gluten-free granola and mini-donuts are available. Additional items offered include hand-crafted soap, pottery, and knife sharpening. 

Master Gardeners are also on hand to answer landscaping questions. The atmosphere is friendly and offers music from local musicians, occasional face painters and balloon artists. 

The smaller Winter Farmers' Market will offer 15 vendors inside the Metra Train Station beginning Saturday, November 3, from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Visit the Palatine Sister Cities website to view the various services, entertainment and products available.

Back Yard Fire Pits

Palatine Fire Department reminds residents to take proactive measures to keep their outdoor entertaining safe and fun for everyone.

According to the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) outside fireplaces or fire pits caused nearly 3,700 grass and brush fires. Total outdoor patio heater or fire pit injuries has nearly tripled in six years (1,330 to 3,608) from 2006-2012. Following some simple safety tips and guidelines can help ensure that you safely enjoy your outdoor fire pit.
