This Labor Day, and Every Day, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

The Palatine Police Department announced its plans for a traffic safety campaign focusing on impaired, unbuckled and distracted drivers. The high-visibility crackdown will run from Aug. 20 through the early morning hours of Sept. 4 to include the Labor Day holiday, an often deadly time on Illinois roads.

The Palatine Police Department is partnering with law enforcement agencies across Illinois for the increased statewide effort.  Extra uniformed police officers will conduct saturation patrols dedicated to identifying and arresting impaired drivers, as well as strictly enforcing speeding, seat belt, and distracted driving laws.  Additionally, the Palatine Police Department will conduct a Roadside Safety Check from the late evening hours on Friday, August 31 through the early morning hours on Saturday, September 1 in the area of Algonquin and Roselle Roads.

Statistics show that an average of 10,000 people were killed each year from 2012 to 2016 - that’s one fatality every 50 minutes, or the equivalent of 20 jumbo jets crashing each year with no survivors.

This Labor Day weekend, remember to designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family members drive drunk. Even a small amount of alcohol can impair judgment and reaction times, making driving unsafe.

The Illinois Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is administered and funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with federal dollars managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Explore Palatine

The Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce (PACC) is spearheading 'Explore Palatine', an event that encourages Village residents to make a point of shopping in Palatine, and supporting the local community on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Residents are encouraged to explore all of Palatine's hidden gems and can participate by visiting Palatine-based retailers, service providers, organizations and restaurants on this day, and whenever possible.

Palatine-based businesses and community organizations, and those who are PACC members, are invited to participate in Explore Palatine. Participants are encouraged to let residents know they are taking part in, and supporting this event, by hosting sales, specials – or simply by displaying a yellow balloon outside of their locations on September 8th. All Palatine businesses and organizations, or PACC members, can register for free and communicate special offers and information about them here. This website is where a growing list of businesses and organizations who are participating in Explore Palatine can be found.

The PACC would like to thank the Presenting Sponsor Pan American Bank & Trust, and Partnering Sponsor, the Downtown Palatine Business Association.
