Traffic Update

The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (CCDOTH) has completed the bridge repairs on Quentin Road. South-bound traffic on Quentin between Dundee and Lake Cook Roads was restored as of Tuesday, August 7th.

Community Blood Drive Being Held Thursday, August 16

The Palatine Board of Health is hosting a Community Blood Drive on Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Palatine Village Hall, 200 E. Wood Street, in Community Room B.

 

The blood drive will be conducted by LifeSource. The donation itself takes approximately 10-15 minutes, and the entire process from registration to post-donation refreshments takes about one hour. The Village of Palatine will host the annual Palatine Street Fest on Friday, August 24 through Sunday, August 26, 2018. 

Join us for live entertainment, food and family fun! Headlining bands will include Sixteen Candles, 7th Heaven and American English.

CERT Training Classes Offered by Harper College

Take an active role in emergency preparedness for your home, your neighborhood, your workplace, and your community. Learn to solve problems, improve communities, connect with others and save lives.  Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training topics include setting up treatment areas, HAZMAT and fire safety, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, medical techniques, and more. Beyond assisting in critical emergencies, CERT members are encouraged to take an active role in ongoing emergency preparedness projects within their communities. Attendees will conclude training by participating in a mock disaster and, upon successful completion, receive a FEMA Certificate of Graduation.   

The next Class will start Monday, September 10 - October 1 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Palatine Police

Citizen Police Academy Accepting Applications

The Palatine Police Department is now accepting applications for the fall session of the Citizen Police Academy that will run from August 29th through October 31st on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The Citizen Police Academy is a unique opportunity for participants to gain insight into the world of law enforcement as
well as foster positive relationships with the officers who serve in their community.  

 
Numerous members of the department will be instructing during the ten week academy with classroom lectures and hands on exercises. The topics to be covered will include:

  • Use of Force
  • Shoot Don’t Shoot Scenarios
  • Crime Prevention
  • Vehicle Stops
  • Neighborhood Based Policing
  • SWAT Operations
  • Gangs
  • K-9 Demonstration
  • Animal Control
  • Crime Scene Investigation

The goal of the Citizen Police Academy is to educate citizens regarding the law enforcement profession and to strive to work cooperatively with the residents of Palatine to make our community a safe place to live and work.
 
Applicants must be at least 25 years of age and reside in Palatine.  Class size is limited and spots fill quickly.  Please fill out the applicationand mail it to the address below or drop it off at the Palatine Police Department.  If you should have any questions, contact Commander Larry Canada at (847) 359-9009.
