Ride Illinois Award

Palatine Wins Ride Illinois Project Award

On May 7, 2018, the Village of Palatine was presented with the Ride Illinois Project Award at the Illinois Bike Summit held at UIC.  The award recognizes the substantial progress the Village has made with the Bike Transportation Plan since its adoption in 2011.  The following is a list of the notable milestones that were recognized as part of the award:

2011:  Palatine adopts a Bicycle Transportation Plan that includes some 26 miles of proposed bike facilities.  Development was a joint effort working with residents, Palatine Bike Club, and LIB.

2012:  Palatine applies for an ITEP grant to implement much of the Bike Plan. Funding is received for approximately 11 miles of on-street routes.

2013:  Working with LIB, Palatine promotes The Bike to Metra program.

2014:  Working with the ATA, Palatine develops a Complete Streets Policy.

2016:  Work from the 2012 ITEP grant completed.

2017:  Submit both an Invest in Cook and ITEP application for a trail connection to the Jens Jensen Forest Preserve Trail, applications were unsuccessful.

2017:  Applied for and received funding through CMAQ to complete a multi-trail loop around Harper College which connects to existing trail systems.

2018:  Submitted an Invest in Cook application that includes improving the bike route crossings at Quentin and Palatine Roads.

Bike Pal Safety Rodeo

Bike Pal Safety Rodeo

A fun, safe, learning experience for children ages 5-10. Children learn how to check their bike, fit their helmet, and maneuver around obstacles. Family fun events will be available. Family members join in on the fun and enjoy a short family fun bike ride after the skills training. Please be sure to bring your bike.  The event is at the Palatine Police Department, 595 N. Hicks Road, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m on Saturday, May 19.  

Palatine Jaycees

Palatine Jaycees Scholarship Applications Due

The Palatine Jaycees are seeking applicants to compete for three $3,000 scholarships that will be presented at their June 21 general meeting at the American Legion Hall (122 W. Palatine Road, Palatine) as part of their annual leadership scholarship program. Applications can be obtained from the Palatine Jaycee website here, by email at, or by calling (847) 604-0288. Applications are also available from guidance counselors at Fremd, Palatine, and St. Viator High Schools. Mailed entries must be received by May 20 at Palatine Jaycees Scholarship Committee, Post Office Box 1517, Palatine, IL 60078-1517. In order to apply, applicants must write a two-page essay about their leadership skills within the community, church, and/or school.

Free Trees from the MWRD

Free Trees from the MWRD

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) recently started the Restore the Canopy program, which offers free tree saplings to residents of Cook County, regardless of whether they reside in the MWRD's service area. Every Wednesday between 9 AM and 12 PM from March through October, people can pick up a bur oak, pin oak, and/or swamp white oak at any of the MWRD's six water reclamation plants (Calumet in Chicago, Egan in Schaumburg, Hanover Park, Kirie in Des Plaines, O'Brien in Skokie, or Stickney in Cicero). Trees are available either bare-rooted or potted.

Vehicle Stickers
Vehicle Stickers and Animal Licenses
Vehicle stickers and animal licenses are now available for purchase.

Residents are encouraged to purchase both the vehicle stickers and animal licenses online to avoid delays, both are due annually before July 1. Follow the online instructions and the vehicle stickers and animal licenses will be mailed to you. 

You may purchase in person, at the Finance counter, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at Palatine Village Hall, 200 E. Wood Street, Palatine, IL 60067 or by mail (only checks will be accepted). 

To avoid penalties and citations, vehicle stickers must be purchased and affixed to vehicles by June 30. Late fees will be charged beginning July 1.
