PalatinE-Newsletter keeping our subscribers informed of the happenings within the Village of Palatine.

Brush Pickup

Curbside Brush Pickup Scheduled for February 5, 2018

Curbside brush collection is scheduled for the first full week of February, beginning Monday, February 5 at 7:00 a.m. This collection will be for unbundled brush and does not include bagged leaves or brush at this time. 

Residents must have all brush unbundled and no larger than 8 inches in diameter to accommodate chipper. Additionally, all brush must have cut end  facing toward the street.

Residents may also dispose of their Christmas trees, however please make sure the tree is clean of lights and all ornaments. Only cleaned trees will be accepted

Firewood, tree stumps and root balls will not be accepted because of the potential damage it may cause to the chipper.

Crews will pass down each street once. Residents are asked to be patient. If the amount of brush is excessive or there is inclement weather, it may take the entire week to finish brush collection.


Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training Class

The Palatine Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) in conjunction with the Palatine Fire Department would like to promote the upcoming Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Class.

CERT training prepares you to know what to do for your family, neighbors and community in the event of natural or man-made disaster. Take an active role in emergency preparedness for your home, your neighborhood, your workplace, and your community. Learn to solve problems, improve communities, connect with others, and save lives
Register through Harper College here. Tuition is $59.00. Upon successful completion of the class participants may quality to volunteer with PEMA. If you become a PEMA volunteer $35.00 is refunded.

Citizen Police Academy

Accepting Applications

The Palatine Police Department is now accepting applications for the spring session of the Citizen Police Academy that will run from February 21 through April 25 on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. 

The Citizen Police Academy is a unique opportunity for participants to gain insight into the world of law enforcement as well foster positive relationships with the officers who serve in their community. Numerous members of the department will be instructing during the eight week academy with classroom lectures and hands on experience.  The topics to be covered will include:

• Use of Force
• Shoot Don’t Shoot Scenarios
• Crime Prevention
• Vehicle Stops
• Neighborhood Based Policing
• SWAT Operations
• Gangs
• K-9 Demonstration
• Animal Control
• Crime Scene Investigation

The goal of the Citizen Police Academy is to educate citizens regarding the law enforcement profession and to strive to work cooperatively with the residents of Palatine to make our community a safe place to live and work.

Applicants must be at least 25 years of age and reside in Palatine.  Class size is limited and spots fill quickly.  Please fill out the application and address it to the Palatine Police Department as shown below.  If you should have any questions, contact Commander Larry Canada at (847) 359-9009.
