Child Passenger Safety Week

FREE Child Safety Seat
Inspection and Installation
Friday, September 22, Noon to 3 PM

The Palatine Police Department will have a certified Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technician available to inspect and install your child (or childrens) car seat on Friday, September 22, 2017, noon to 3:00 p.m. Don't make any of the 8 critical mistakes before your child turns 8!

The 8 most common, but critical mistakes, parents make unknowingly when it comes to child passenger safety include: turning the child forward-facing too soon; not adjusting the harness snugly against the child; not securing the car seat in the vehicle properly; forgetting to register the car seat for recall notification; having toys or other items unsecured in the vehicle; not using the lower anchors/LATCH system as approved; not using the top tether on a forward-facing car seat; and moving to the next car seat or booster seat too soon. Visit #8carseatmistakes for more information, or call 847-359-9061 for questions regarding the upcoming event.

Fight the Flu

Flu Season is Upon Us Again - Time to get Vaccinated!

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recommends everyone six months and older get their flu vaccination. The flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctors' visits, missed work and school, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations. Additionally, the flu vaccination protects people from getting the flu, especially those who are not able to get vaccinated such as babies six months and under.

The nasal spray vaccine is not recommended this year as an alternative to the flu shot. It is recommended that people get the flu shot by the end of October as the flu season typically begins in October and peaks between December and March.

Flu symptoms can include the following:

  • Fever
  • Feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • Tiredness
  • Vomiting and diarrhea

Flu is spread by droplets when someone with the flu talks, coughs, or sneezes. It can also be spread with people touch something like a door handle that has the virus on it and then touch their mouth, eyes, or nose.

Visit the IDPH website for more information on the flu symptoms, prevention, vaccination and more. Also, check out to find available flu vaccination providers in your community.
