After several years of touch up painting and over coating fire hydrants, the Village will be removing layers of paint down to bare metal, priming, and painting some fire hydrants. Contracted crews began this week and will be working in the area generally bounded by Quentin Road, Northwest Highway, and Palatine Road. Don’t be concerned if you see a brown fire hydrant! The hydrants will temporarily be brown after the primer is applied. After the selected fire hydrants have been prepared and primed, the contractor will paint them the traditional red color. By mid-April, expect many of the fire hydrants in that area to look much improved. For more information, call the Public Works Department at (847) 705-5200.

Textile Recycling Coming Soon to Palatine!
Beginning Monday, March 28, The Village of Palatine will introduce a new textile recycling program through Simple Recycling.
Textile recycling is a way for residents to recycle used clothing items instead of throwing them away. This Clothing and Textile Collection program diverts clothing and textile items from landfills, assists the local community, and supports the environment and planet.
This free program accepts new, gently used, or unwanted/worn, women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and textiles. All fabrics are accepted. Even clothes or textiles with stains or holes, along with those notorious single socks, are accepted. This is a full-circle program. Your donations of new and gently used clothing and textiles will be recycled into usable new products.
Starting March 28 residents will be able to request a front door pickup via Simple Recycling's website or phone number (866-835-5068). Recyclables should then be placed in a bag or box outside the resident's front door at the designated reservation time.
