Annual Winter Curbside Brush Collection
The Public Works Department will conduct its annual winter curbside brush collection starting on Monday, February 7, 2022, depending on weather.
Please have all loose brush set out at the curb by 7:00 AM on that day. Crews will make only one pass down each street. If brush amounts are excessive, it may take all week to finish the collection. Guidelines: - Brush must be 8 inches or less in diameter to accommodate the chipper.
- Firewood, tree stumps and root balls will not accepted because of the potential damage to the chipper.
- Clean Christmas trees (without lights or decorations) will be accepted.
- Branches should be as long as possible with cut ends facing the street, without impeding traffic.
The collection may be delayed due to snow. An announcement will be made if the pickup needs to be rescheduled due to poor weather conditions. For more information, please visit our website or call Public Works at (847) 705-5200.

Placement of Garbage and Recycling Bins
With the recent snowstorms the Village would like to remind residents about the placement of garbage and recycling bins. The Public Works Department makes every effort to avoid knocking over bins, but plowing snow can unfortunately disrupt some when drivers are completing the final curb-to-curb pass. To reduce the likelihood of your bins being knocked over, consider placing them at the curb after snow plowing has been completed on your street, if your typical collection time allows for it. For bins that need to be set out prior to snow plowing being finished, place them on your driveway apron about one foot from the back of the curb (and never in the street). This buffer provides space for snow to roll off the edge of the plow blade without disrupting bins, while also allowing the garbage truck's collection arm to reach the bins. Clearing an area "upstream" of your driveway also lets snow roll off into that pocket and less onto the driveway and against your bins. For a diagram visit Tips on Keeping Your Driveway Clear. For more information about snow plowing, call Public Works at (847) 705-5200.

The Palatine Police Department continues to field community concerns regarding coyote sightings in residential areas. To expedite a proactive response to this concern, the Village continues to partner with an Urban Coyote Specialist with a strong record of positive results in other metro-area communities. To help the specialist better understand our coyote population and patterns, the community is being asked for their assistance. Residents who observe a coyote in their neighborhood are asked to go to the Scientific Wildlife Management website and report the sighting and condition of the animal. Residents who have questions about the online reporting process can contact the police department at 847-359-9000. As coyotes are wild animals, residents should never actively seek out or search for them. Additional information will be provided as we continue to investigate these concerns.
