Construction Alert: Rohlwing Road Improvements Project
Rohlwing Road from Palatine Road to Northwest Highway will be rehabilitated this year. The Village received over $750,000 in Rebuild Illinois grant funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), which will provide the majority of the funding required to rehabilitate the pavement. The Village also anticipates receiving $250,000 in grant funds from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to cover the balance of the project. Work is scheduled to begin the week of September 20, 2021, and will be completed by November 19, 2021. This project includes pavement resurfacing and base course patching from Palatine Road to Wilmette Road, full-depth base and pavement rehabilitation from Wilmette Road to Northwest Highway, curb and gutter removal and replacement, sidewalk replacement, ramp upgrades to meet ADA requirements, and removal of the brick-enclosed landscape island at the south end of Rohlwing and replacement with an at-grade median. Rohlwing Road will be accessible throughout the duration of the project, but at times there may be traffic delays due to the construction activities. There will be lane reductions and adjusted traffic patterns from just north of Wilmette Road to Northwest Highway for a portion of the project. If you have any questions about this public improvement project, please call the Public Works Department at (847) 705-5200.

Home fires are reported every 93 seconds in the United States and you only have a few minutes to get out safely. The time to plan your exit is not during a fire. Plan now when the weather is nice, practice your home drill, and know your meeting place. The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) recommends the following tips for home escape planning: - Make a home escape map. Draw your home showing every door, window, and floor of your home.
- Know 2 ways out. Every room and exit path should have 2 ways out. Plan that one exit/path may be blocked.
- Have a meeting place. A meeting place is where your family will meet once outside. Choose a location on the street side and a safe location/distance from the house. It can be a tree, a light pole, a mailbox, across the street at your neighbors, or your parking spot if you live in a multi-family building.
- Practice the drill at night and during the day twice a year. Practice using a different way out for each drill.
- Teach your children how to escape on their own in case you can’t help them, have them meet you at the meeting place.
- Close doors behind you as you leave to slow the spread of fire.
- Have your complex association plan a full building fire drill if you live in a multi-family building. Multi-family buildings will increase the number of people who need to exit which can separate families. A meeting place will help reunite family members.
- Never go back inside for people or pets.
- Plan to call 911 once outside.
A home fire death happens every 3 hours and 10 minutes in the United States. Seconds count in a fire, having an escape plan will aid in getting you and your family out quickly and safely. Remember when the alarm activates, stay low and go. Never go back into a fire once you have escaped. Get out and stay out. For more information visit nfpa.org.
