Changes to Groot Services

Beginning January 1, 2020 White Goods and Electronic Waste will be subject to a $20 charge payable, in advance, to Groot.  These services apply to single family and townhome residents that are billed for waste collection services by the Village of Palatine.
White Goods

White goods are collected each Wednesday.  White goods include refrigerators, ranges, water heaters, freezers, air conditioners, humidifiers, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, furnaces, dehumidifiers, water softeners, trash compactors , microwaves ovens and other similar domestic large appliances.

Electronic Waste
Electronic waste includes televisions, computers, keyboards, facsimile machines, recorders, digital music players, digital video disc players, video game consoles, small scale servers, scanners, electronic mice, digital convertors, cable receivers, satellite receivers and digital video disc recorders. This includes the collection of up to five (5) items, including televisions (under 50 pounds). Televisions in excess of 50 pounds will require an additional charge of $50.00 per unit. Residents should contact Groot at least one (1) business day in advance of their regular service day to schedule collection.

For additional resources and locations for electronic waste recycling, please visit and search electronics recycling.
Refuse Carts
All refuse must be placed in refuse carts provided by Groot for weekly collection.   Any requests to exchange the refuse cart size for a 65 or 35-gallon cart are subject to a $30.00 delivery fee payable in advance to Groot.  Please place refuse and recycling in the correct carts and do not place any carts in the street.  Refuse carts have black lids and recycling carts have either green or yellow lids.
Please contact Groot directly at 800-244-1977 to pursue any of the services or options outlined above.  For other questions or additional information, please contact the Village of Palatine's Environmental Health Division at 847-359-9042 or visit our website.
