Village Receives Tree City USA Growth Award

Palatine earned Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program's four requirements: maintaining a tree board or department; having a tree care ordinance; spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry; and celebrating Arbor Day. Growth Awards are presented to Tree City USA communities that demonstrate higher levels of tree care and community engagement during the calendar year. Palatine has been a Tree City USA community for the past 37 years and has earned Growth Awards for the past 9 years!

Trees are assets to our community when properly planted and maintained. They help to improve the visual appeal of neighborhoods, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits. The Public Works Department's Forestry Division takes great pride in caring for our urban forest and maintaining our Tree City USA status.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service
and the National Association of State Foresters.
